The topic of homeschooling has become an interesting issue as in certain nations, parents have refused to enroll their children in schools and they are more inclined to homeschool their children. This issue possesses a number of benefits and drawbacks that I aim to discuss in the following paragraphs.
On the one hand, homeschooling can lead to certain plus points. In other words, by using this method, parents are able to customize their children’s curriculum, enabling them to adjust the curriculum that suits their children’s preferences. Take subjects that children may find challenging, for example; they require more time to allocate, which is not feasible in a school setting. Nevertheless, this problem can be addressed by enrolling children in extracurricular classes which can improve children’s weaknesses.
On the other hand, homeschooling comes with a number of downsides. First of all, the majority of parents have neither any proven records in education nor are qualified enough to be tutors. Thus, children may struggle in later life due to the lack of their parents’ knowledge in related fields. In addition, as the 21st century continues to unfold, more schools are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities which students do not have access to at home. Sport science students can be a case in point; they require advanced technologies, such as cardiogram machines or special treadmills, to learn how to evaluate athletes’ performances, which are only available in educational institutions.
In conclusion, although students educated by their parents may enjoy certain benefits, I advocate the idea that schools offer more competitive advantages. Therefore, it seems to me that the downsides outweigh the merits.
