In recent times, it has been increasingly common for many parents to equip their children with school education programs at home instead of sending them to traditional schools. While homeschooling provides offer great benefits in terms of learning environment and personalized education, I strongly believe that traditional education still holds great importance as it promotes nurtured social connection and lessened parenting responsibilities.
Proponents of homeschooling cite various reasons to support their stance. They think that homeschooling is an effective way to achieve flexible and distraction-free learning environment along with tailored learning approaches. When children go to public schools as in most cases in the world, they often face some difficulties like distractions from classmates, large-sized classrooms and single learning method for all students. By being in this learning environment, many children find it difficult to focus on lessons and grasp knowledge needed to their academic pursuits. Yet, homeschooling can offer the opposite of this situation. Once children start to practice homeschooling programs, they can develop an ability of focused learning without distracting external factors. In addition, homeschooling can be preferred because of its flexibility. Children who participate in this type of learning can get information at their own pace, allocating more time on challenging tasks or spending less time on easy parts, thereby leading to a perfect learning scenario at home.
However, going to public schools does more goods than harms. Initially, it acts as a fundamental factor for the development of children’s social skills. When children go to schools, they get valuable opportunities to connect with their peers who come from different walks of life and hold friendly conversations in different situations ranging from classroom discussions, group activities, collaborative tasks to extracurricular events and gatherings, broadening their horizons. As a result, all these collaborative activities help students to enhance their social qualities like teamworking, networking, collaboration, corporation, and communication all of which add more values to their personal and professional endeavors in the future. Moreover, sending children to public schools is a great way to shorten the responsibilities of parents. If parents put children in public schools, they can lessen responsibilities like keeping an eye on their learning processes. This in turn, gives parents a chance to dedicate more time for their professional life rather than managing the demand of homeschooling. In a world where job competition is very high and holding one job requires longer work hours and time demanding tasks, spending quality time with family members has been difficult, let alone setting time aside for homeschool children.
In conclusion, while practicing homeschooling might be an effective plan to ensure enhanced learning atmosphere and flexible studying, I contend that comprehensive ways of public education, improved social interactions and reduced obligations, are of great importance.
