In some countries, prisoners are provided with facilities such as comfortable accommodation, good food, and healthcare. I completely disagree with offering these amenities to prisoners. This essay will outline the reasons for my position, supported by clear examples.
First of all, I believe that prisoners should face punishment rather than enjoy comfortable conditions, as this is the main purpose of imprisonment. It is unfair for the government to provide prisoners with high-quality facilities when they have committed crimes. Another important reason for my disagreement is that government resources should be allocated to more pressing needs, such as education or public healthcare, rather than luxury for prisoners. For instance, these funds could be invested in education, which remains underdeveloped in many countries. Finally, offering comfortable facilities to prisoners might encourage criminal behavior by reducing the fear of punishment. Instead of providing such good conditions, the penalties should be stricter to deter crime.
Another argument regarding the negative effects of subjecting criminals to harsh conditions is that it may worsen their behavior rather than reform them, while rehabilitation could have a more positive impact. For example, if a prisoner gains knowledge, such as learning to read and write or mastering a craft during their sentence, they might find a job upon release and support their family independently. Otherwise, they are more likely to reoffend after being released from prison.
In conclusion, I strongly disagree with providing prisoners with comfortable facilities.
