In this day and age, broadcasting some televised trials are prevalent among many nations all over the world. While there are a few benefits of this trend , I am of the opinion that the drawbacks are greater.
On the one hand, publishing the criminal trials in law courts can be beneficial because it enhances public understanding of the law. Thanks to the presence of criminal trials shown on television, lay people have a chance to be exposed to the law, which enables individuals to combat criminal behaviors and be more cautious and vigilant about the potential suspects.
For example, a person who daily follows the televised trials could accumulate a great deal of knowledge of the terms and conditions in law code which might inspire them to fight for justice and avoid some suspicious people for security. Furthermore, televised trials may raise public awareness about the consequences of criminal actions via the punishment for the criminals, substantially alleviating crime rates.
On the other hand, despite all the merit of publishing criminal trials on television, I would argue that this programme may do more harm than good due to some reasons. Firstly, televised trials may motivate criminal actions that are above the law. These trials may show the case that prisoners may not be under any punishments such as the criminals who have problems with psychology , which renders criminals to take advantage of these shortcomings and could be out of law easier. Moreover, broadcasting criminal trial courts might place pressure on the jury, who might be fearful of the public opinions. For example, the jury whose ideas opposing the majority might align their verdict towards public expectations, triggering the unfairness and partiality of the judicial process. As a result, televised trials may exacerbate the crime problems rather than deterring criminal actions.
In conclusion, although showing criminal trials in the courts may bring some positive effects, I strongly believe that the advantages are outweighed by the shortcoming
