Society considers that public education might create individuals based on values like empathy and cooperation instead of educating people focused only on personal achievements. In my opinion, this should be a positive change on people’s conduct, from students to professionals. This essay will explain some points.
Firstly, time in school might be an important step in the life of every single person. Children spend more than 12 years in educational establishments. It is in this scenario where values like empathy, compassion or cooperation are necessary and can make a big impact on society. From my experience and example, the base of my high school’s education received in Chile was exclusive focused to be selected in a public university, I would mention that all this process was managed like a challenge for me and classmates, contrasting with conflictive situations that we lived as students and sometimes including violence in the classroom.
Secondly, one of the biggest reasons why is important to educate citizens good feelings than people with skills, it is because some professionals consider that life is a challenge and losing is not a viable option under any circumstance. Sadly, a clear example of these professionals are many politicians, some of them consider that the party’s interests or the annual elections are main priorities and leaving the needs of people at end. As a result, I consider that the lack of political will is just a consequence of individualism.
As a conclusion, I strongly agree that bases of education need first to take direction for building good citizen before than individuals with skills.
