In various nations, living with families is chosen by university students, whether other students in other countries tend to opt for studying in different cities. Personally, I believe that this phenomenon has more benefits than drawbacks, and in this essay, I would prove my perspective on this matter.
Regarding the adverse effects of being far from home while pursuing studies at a distance from family, this is because of some emergencies and creating distance between family members. With regard to the former, when studying far from family, students can be isolated and they have to deal with every problem by themselves without help from family, therefore, when being stuck in emergency problems, they may find it challenging to manage the situation effectively. For instance, in health emergencies, international students can be arduous in making acquaintances in the other healthcare systems without helping and taking after from family. This lack of immediate support can lead to heightened stress and anxiety, potentially exacerbating the problem and affecting their overall well-being of students. Moreover, living far from home can lead to a separation between family members, cause we will have less time for talking, sharing and maintaining close relationships. Over time, this distance can weaken emotional bonds, leading to a sense of detachment and making it harder to stay connected and involved in each other’s lives.
However, the advantages of pursuing education away from home outweigh the disadvantages, on the grounds that it helps students become more independent and enhance their horizons about culture and tradition. In terms of being self-independent, international students may learn to manage their daily lives, from handling household chores, and finances to navigating a new environment, which fosters a strong sense of responsibility and problem-solving skills. Additionally, they develop resilience and adaptability, which are valuable in their growth progress. Furthermore, attending school far from family for studying also fosters students’ horizons about culture and tradition in lieu of living in a new environment, exposing new culture, new traditions and new relationships. For example, students may experience diverse culinary traditions, participate in local festivals, and interact with peers from various cultural backgrounds. This exposure can enhance their perspective, enrich their understanding of different ways of life, and develop their adaptability in an increasingly interconnected world.
In conclusion, although there are mixed opinions about the negatives and positives of studying far from family, I believe that there are more benefits than drawbacks. Specifically, living far from family can foster the self-independence of students by doing everything by themself and expand their knowledge about cultures and traditions by exposing them to a new environment. Nevertheless, emergencies sometimes can be challenging with them and their family can have distance between each other.
