This is the reason why now a day teenagers are advised to do a job or travel around the world to get good exposure and other knowledge. It is highly effective to the student when they apply for any higher studies, but it also has some major setbacks which are important to be taken into account.
The major reason of taking a break from studying and entering into corporate world or travelling is to know what one is really good at as well as what are the things that one would like to pursue as their carrier. The experience they get from either traveling or doing minor jobs can be very useful for them in their future.
