In the modern world, it is common for young people, who just finished school, to plan to go to work or take time out for self-development before going to university. Similar practice has not yet been fully approved by society, but now our task is to discuss all the pros and cons of such, sometimes decisive, behavior of graduates.
Firstly, let’s talk about the pros. Before entering the university students can gain work experience, which can help in finding a job in the main job. Also, in a short break a person can decide exactly whether he should enter this particular institution or he wants something else, that is, to make an informed decision and in the future do not regret the choice. In addition, the student could use such a break to gather his thoughts before a serious stage of life and pass exams well.
Secondly, let’s discuss the cons. Perhaps, a future student, having got a good job, will simply not want to get a higher education and will stay in the same position. According to a sociological study, 24% of graduates are afraid to take a break before university because of the possibility of getting into the army, and 9% because of the risk of getting married. But the most important reason is age, because being young it is much easier to bear stress and perceive information.
In conclusion, I would like to summarise the above-mentioned. “Gap year” is, most importantly, a good opportunity for some people to build their future in a balanced way before entering a higher education institution and not to worry about the right or wrong choice, which will have a very good impact on the economy of the country. At the same time, in some countries it is simply accepted to study at university at an early age, right after graduating from school. In my opinion, a student should be based on his/her priorities and situation in life and should not be judged by society in choosing such a path.
