In many different parts of the globe, more pupils are deciding to choose work-based training over attending an undergraduate degree. For this specific topic, I do think that there are indeed pros and cons in choosing work-based training over university. This essay will discuss both areas of advantage and disadvantage, and I will give my own prime examples from my experience.
On the first hand, the reason on why teenagers tend to choose work-based training is because Artificial Intelligience (Ai) is going to take over most of the corporate jobs in the near future. If young peers choose work-based training, it is because this type of career path includes jobs that need human precense, and couldn’t ultimately be replaced by Artificial Intelligience. For example, my cousin didn’t pursue an undergraduate degree, and instead trained to be a salesman at a local dealership near my hometown. Another advantage, would be on how it would be relatively easy to enter the workforce as training with inside job experience is a massive benefit.
On the other hand, certain disadvantages also arise, as the young individual wouldn’t be as educated as his other co-workers. Furthermore, the young adult will feel far behind his co-workers, as completing only high school wouldn’t be enough for the years to come foward. A situation that I have heard from a close friend of mine where he stated, ” that not pursuing university after highschool and instead going for work-based training might’ve been the worst decision that he had taken”.
To conclude, whether the advantages or the disadvantages outweigh eachother depends mostly on the person’s prefences and on the type of career that they would like to pursue in the future.
