Band 6+: In some countries young people choosing to get enroll in work base traning than university . Is the advantage of this traing out weigh the disadvantage.

Nowadays, most of the high school graduates are directly going for job-based training instead of attending university for further education with a belief that, university education is outdated and practical skills are more required instead of hours-long lectures. While this idea is good in certain extent but avoiding the university entirely is not a good choice.

In this AI era, developing practical skills has become more important than ever because, most of the companies and businesses are restructuring their workforce by integrating AI in their daily work, with an aim to minimize cost, be efficient and competitive in market. This means, the jobs are getting replaced by AI and automation, which are more accurate, more efficient and less costly. For instance, various multinational companies have already replaced repetitive jobs with AI and, especially in the tech field, coders and software developers are rapidly getting replaced with AI. This makes having skills that cannot be easily replaced by AI more and more important than college degrees.

However, nowadays universities are not merely a lecture hall. In universities, more and more vocational and practical education is being provided through which, a student can learn otehr skills as well as develop cognitive ability and interpersonal skills that matter as much as any skills. Moreover, universities provide guidance and act as an essential theoretical framework on top of which a student can develop more practical skills easily. So, instead of discarding universities entirely, a balanced approach should be adopted where both practical skills and university knowledge should be adopted. Finally, a person has to form a habit of lifelong learning so that he/she is always prepared for any type of changes in workplace.

In summary, both work-based skills as well as theoretical knowledge are equally essential and developing conginitive ability, interpersonal skills and lifelong learning are the shields which can prevent anyone for any type transformations in the workforce in future.
