The ultimate pace of this civilization has forced people to be busy only with prosperity, successes and subsequently, people are under evaluating family bonds, keeping themselves busy thinking for their own life, becoming more self-centric. This leads to sending the elder family members to care home, this solution has both advantages and disadvantages, but I don’t think the advantages don’t outshine disadvantages.
To start with, sending elderly people to care house is an indication that the other members of the family do not care for them anymore, and to manage the time for caring them (elders) are now unmanageable for them (other members). This may have some negative mental impact on older people which may be too heavy for them to bear. Secondly, it is a universal truth that today’s younger are the older of tomorrow. So, if today’s younger members have no care for current older people, in future, the fellow generation may also not care for future older people who are young today. If this loop goes on, the stability of society will break down. For example: If my children see I have sent their grandparents to care house, they may also send me to the same destination. This is certainly not the best way to practice family ethics. Thirdly, humans form society with the purpose of cooperation, collaboration, spreading happiness, and peace and at the same time facing difficulties. But if an old man/woman does not get proper care and attention, the main purpose of forming this society falls.
In contrast, it is undeniable that there are some cases where it is the best solution to send the older to care-house for their well-being. For example- in this dynamic world people have to settle in another city, leaving their own because of professional or education purposes. If all the active members have to leave their own house, there are no options but to send the elders to a care home.
Lastly, emergencies do not define the general practice. There are some circumstances where care-home is the best option, but I do think to sustain the family and societal stability, to enhance the practice of altruism, and to make the world a better place to live in, the practice to leave elders when it matters the most, is not supportable.
