In a family, both parents are equally responsible in terms of raising a child; however, in many communities especially in developing countries, we can see that father and mother are not taking the same liabilities in nurturing their children. In this essay, I will discuss the causes of this issue and provide some suggestions regarding parental duty in the future.
Generally speaking, there is a wide range of reasons why both parents do not give similar effort in raising their children in the family. Firstly, the main reason might be the lack of maternal educational qualifications. For instance, after marriage, they stay at home and look after their kids and family. Secondly, in some societies, it has become a norm that the duties of a woman are nurturing kids and household chores while a man is the only breadwinner of the family. Almost 63% of the married women in Bangladesh are housewives.
However, this old school norm is not good for the physical and mental health and growth of a child. Nowadays, women are becoming educated and literate. In future, both parents will understand their duty toward their kids and will work equally both inside and outside the family. A research study from the University of Florida showed that children raised by their fathers are more disciplined than the other child. Therefore, fathers should play a key role in fostering children in the family.
In conclusion, I would say that both parents equal contribution in nurturing kids is essential for the children’s better growth and development.
