Band 7+: In some parts of the world people have become more focused on themselves than their community. What problems can this situation cause and how can they be solved?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Selfishness in human beings is becoming the most widespread problem, rather than thinking about their communities. This essay will find out if this situation causes any issues and will find solutions for them.

When individuals prioritize their own interests over the well-being of their communities, it can cause the most problematic issue people can experience — isolation — because of selfishness and unwillingness to interact with others; furthermore, the isolation can be the reason of impact on mental health, degradation of social status, the erosion of trust and solidarity. Unless a person continues interacting, exchanging knowledge and experience, competing with others, and maintaining healthy competition, there will be no improvement even on the way to their own goals. Consequently, they will lose their chance not only to achieve their own goal but also to achieve everyone’s goals gradually with the help of the community. To avoid this issue, we have to revive our connection with the community, conduct some social programmes that include teamwork, helping all members or interactors in our way connect with each other and interact through social events, voluntary activities, or local initiatives. We have to find out each category of interest so that all members of one community can help each other achieve at least some stage on their way to success.

If the first problem affects only the person himself, the second huge problem has to attract the care of each individual on earth since it is an environmental issue caused by self-interest. Ecological degradation is already the biggest problem in the world because everyone is doing what is consistent without thinking about the consequences of it. To achieve the least net cost, the businessman makes his product from almost unrecyclable materials that take decades to decompose, leaving an ecological footprint as carbon dioxide to air and in the form of microplastic to soil even after decomposing. As a result, these microplastic elements will reveal themselves in the composition of all natural wealth, such as vegetables and fruits being the only food for us. Hence, just the aim to make more money causes an unacceptable effect on the environment and pollution, which is becoming more dangerous day-to-day, deterioration of natural wealth as food which can affect our health and communities well-being, creating the inferior habitat for our descendants. The solution to this problem can be the mass refusion from environmentally unfriendly substances, a decrease in the demand for unhealthy foods, support for recycling all materials, and taxes for environmental improvements. If we keep at least only our milieu clear and fresh instead of throwing trash anywhere, hoping it will not affect us, it will already be the result for us, and the community will gradually adapt to this eco-friendly lifestyle.

In conclusion, the detrimental effects of prioritizing self-interest over community welfare and environmental sustainability are evident. From isolation and deteriorating mental health to ecological degradation and pollution, the consequences are far-reaching and impactful. However, by fostering a sense of community connection and promoting eco-friendly practices, we can begin to address these challenges. Through collaborative efforts and individual responsibility, we can create a more inclusive, resilient society that prioritizes the well-being of both people and the planet. It is only by working together, with a collective commitment to change, that we can overcome the pervasive issue of self-focusedness and build a brighter, more sustainable future for all.
