Band 8+: In some parts of the world traditional festivals and celebrations have disappeared or are disappearing. What problems is this causing? What measures could be taken to counter this situation?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

With changing social norms and cultural values, the disappearance of traditional festivals and celebrations has become an increasingly common phenomenon. While losing these events presents certain challenges for social cohesion, I believe both the government and the population have measures to combat this issue.

The decline of traditional festivals and celebrations poses clear challenges for society. One major issue is the reduction of social cohesion. This is because conventional gatherings often provide the population with opportunities to interact with each other through various activities, such as cooking together, pursuing hobbies, holding meaningful conversations, and engaging in negotiations, thereby strengthening social bonds and mutual appreciation. However, the disappearance of these celebrations and traditional gatherings means that many people lose connection even with their family members, let alone other individuals, potentially compromising social harmony.

Nonetheless, there are various ways in which the disappearance of traditional festivals and celebrations can be addressed. On a governmental scale, it is essential to promote respect for and encouragement of celebrations. This can be accomplished by allocating holidays for events, providing entertainment activities, constructing recreational facilities, and teaching the importance of these events through public awareness campaigns, such as school-based programs and community outreach projects. On an individual level, it is critical to participate actively in these events. This can be done by encouraging family members, relatives, and neighbors to engage in these traditional festivals as a means of fostering social interaction.

In conclusion, although the loss of traditional events brings clear drawbacks for the public regarding social unity, I believe there are various ways for both governments and individuals to prevent these events from vanishing.
