Band 7+: In terms of having accommodation, some people want to rent a place while others prefer to buy a place. Does renting a place bring more advantages than buying a place?

There is a prevailing notion that cellphones have undoubtedly had a significant impact on family dynamics and communication. From my perspective, I partly agree with this view on account of the reasoning presented below.

Admittedly, there are valid arguments supporting the idea that smartphones are essential for connecting with distant family members. Firstly, one undeniable benefit of cellphones is the ability to bridge geographical distances. For example, video calls and messaging apps allow families to stay in touch and share updates regardless of location. This can be especially important for families with members spread across different countries or regions. Secondly, smartphones can broaden our cultural awareness by exposing us to a wider range of information and perspectives. This exposure can foster understanding and potentially lead to meaningful connections outside of our immediate family circle.

Despite these considerations, I maintain that their excessive use within the family can be counterproductive to family dynamics and communication for several reasons. Firstly, constant distraction by devices can create barriers between parents and children. When family members are glued to their screens during meals or shared activities, it hinders quality time and genuine conversation. Secondly, excessive immersion in the virtual world can lead to social isolation and a disconnect from real-life interactions. For example, young people who spend an inordinate amount of time online might develop withdrawn personalities and struggle to build a social life.

In conclusion, while smartphones are essential for connecting with distant family members, it is my firm conviction that their excessive use within the family can be counterproductive to family dynamics and communication.
