There is a shift of trend from using animals in miscellaneous areas such as medicine and the food industry to not using them as an essential part anymore. I agree to a large extent with the notion, and in this essay, I will explain my reasons.
To begin with, using animal meat as a base ingredient for cooking is not a must anymore. Thanks to some alternatives such as vegetables which are rich in proteins and various minerals that merely could be found in meat before, foods could be made using these new ingredients. For instance, hamburgers could be made from synthetic meats produced from veggie sources, therefore there is no need for lamb or cow meat.
Let us not forget that owing to the cutting-edge methods in the clothing industry, there is no need for killing animals. Unlike the past that plenty of animals were killed to produce fabrics using their skin or tails which also had some catastrophic impacts on the environment such as the elimination of rare spices, nowadays clothes are made with synthetic fabrics by some state-of-the-art machines which have exact patterns as animal’s skin and could not even be recognized as a synthetic product.
However, using animals could not be forbidden, especially in the medicine industry. Although today, using animals to produce various medicines has been limited, there is still an inseparable part of examinations related to humans. For example, as long as there is a need for a particular medicine to prevent the development of a disastrous disease among humans such as the coronavirus, using animals is a Hobson’s choice, so scientists could test those medicines on them to see how it react on their body.
In conclusion, it is true that there is still a significant need for animals in the medicine industry, but animal meat and skin are replaced by synthetic veggie meats and synthetic fabrics. Consequently, I largely agree with the statement in the question.
