In today’s world, many individuals have secondary job or even multiple jobs at the same time, which becomes commonplace, as time has passed. In this essay, i will explore the reasons why some devote themselves to working, along with my viewpoint to this phenomenon.
Above all, i believe each individual has their own reasons for having more than one job. some individuals are aware of the fact that money can bring a lot of joys into their life, such as traveling abroad, buying tablets with multiple functions, luxurious clothes and etc. In this sense, people, especially younger ones, strive for methods to earn money to maximize the enjoyments. By contrast, some people , particularly when they become parents, have no choice but to work harder than anyone, since these parents take on responsibility for their children and family. For instance, if one’s main job can’t offer salaries enough to support one’s family, or if one of the family members is diagnosed with diseases such as cancer, people who are in those serious situations must work harder by having multiple jobs. Additionally, considering that the job market is becoming so competitive, only a few jobs could provide a good level of salaries, and the diverse array of jobs has been expanded due to technological advancement, it is obvious that people facing different circumstances decide to have more than one job.
However, despite some benefits and valid reasons of having multiple jobs, it could push people over the edge. In general, people have an limited amount of energy. If people spend their most of time on working, both one’s mentality and physicality will reach the limit, placing them in a state of burn-out. In reality, many Korean workers have revealed that they suffer from over-working on multiple surveys conducted by government administrations and some universities. Given that those workers mostly work for only one company, it is evident that having multiple jobs would put workers in a high-pressure state. Moreover, it could be an obstacle for workers to focus on the development of main career. Considering the main reason for having multiple jobs is for money, focusing solely on one’s main job could be more wiser strategy for higher salaries in mid to long term solution.
To sum up, I have discussed the reasons, with advantages and disadvantages of this trend. Although having secondary job may give workers a temporary financial rewards, and it is inevitable for some people dealing with serious problems in their life, i also contend that people should prioritize their health first, finding a way to earn money enough with wiser strategy such as career development.
