Children today have less freedom than in the past. Parents are becoming more protective and restrictive. I believe this change is a positive development.
In most cases, a restrictive style ensures the children’s safety. This is because, by setting boundaries, parents can keep their children safe from harmful influences, both online and offline, be it cyber threats, peer pressure, or crime. In this sense, children are grown up, being without any insecurities and immoralities.
Apart from this, today’s parents bring up their sons or daughters through teaching discipline and responsibility. When parents set rules, for example, screen time, study schedules, and social interactions, children learn self-discipline and time management. Therefore, these skills are crucial for their future success.
Furthermore, an authoritative and overprotective style, which enforces strict rules while being supportive, strengthens parent-child relationships. When parents are concerned about their children’s lives, it encourages better communication and understanding. This creates a supportive environment where children feel comfortable discussing their problems.
In conclusion, I share the view that modern parenting, though more restrictive, is a positive trend as it ensures children’s safety, teaches discipline and strengthens family bonds. Reasonable restrictions help children grow into responsible adults.
