The usage of AI to assist in one’s work and studies have been increasing. This has been a negative development for both students and workers because it overall makes them overly dependent and reduces their critical thinking abilities.
Firstly, the surge in the development of AI technology has been encouraging people to use it more frequently due to its ability to access and research the internet swiftly. On paper it may seem beneficial especially for individuals whose line of work consist of heavy research. A quick prompt of what is being researched and complete answers and necessary details will be available within seconds. While it would seem helpful and time saving, it encourages its users to repeatedly use it over and over again which leads to overdependency.
Secondly, as a result of the misuse of AI, it would potentially lead to the lessening of a person’s critical thinking ability. AI is capable of complex thinking and sophisticatedly analyzing data. Comfort in its use would push consumers to immediately utilize AI once they ran into a problem that requires further contemplation. This habit of using AI to solve daily problems would guide users to always use it for every minor problem and overall lower one’s critical thinking skills and logical reasoning.
In conclusion, AI can be considered an extremely helpful tool for problems, research, and any other sort of tasks given, but any abuse of power or misapplication would severely ruin a person’s way of thinking in comparison to truly helping them.
