It is commonly believed that fast fashion causes more harm than benefits . However, others believe that it has more positive sides than negative ones. From my perspective, fast fashion is rather problematic than useful for the society because of how negatively it affects our planet’s environment and nature. Fast fashion’s development made it possible for people to express themselves more easily and embracing their creativity and unique taste in clothes, making it accessible for everyone. Nowadays, more and more fashionistas buy their clothes not in supermarkets, but from the mass market’s stores. Brands provide high-quality items, inspired by high fashion segment, in all sizes and colors, and allows all the people, no matter of their income, to embrace their own style and creating your own flair. For example, Emma Chamberlain, an influencer, who shares with her subscribers on YouTube, new trends, fashion ideas and tips how to create looks that would catch everyone’s eyes. Before she became famous, she used to get all her clothes from stores like H&M, Zara and others, which helped her creating her own vision how she wants to be seen by others.
But behind this term stands also a lot of problems, such as: damage to ecosystems, usage of children’s powers on the factories and unrealistically low hour-rates. Because of how accessible clothes nowadays are, people buy new clothes each fashion season, trying to follow trends. Unfortunately, fashion world is way too fast-paced, dictating completely new trends every year. People just throw their old clothes away in order not to be old-fashioned. Most of the pieces end up in the ocean, beaches, natural areas, not being able to decompose, causing harm to the inhabitants in the areas and to the nature itself. For example, following the latest researches, ocean’s creatures, such as turtles, different kinds of fish, stuck in clothing pieces, which don’t let them to move freely, leading to their death, which causes lots of problems for the environment in the future.
To sum up, although fast fashion helps people embracing their taste more easily, in my opinion, it has more negative effects due to how destructive it is for the environment.
