While shopping was traditionally viewed as a routine domestic task, the popularity of people picking up shopping as their hobby is proliferating with time. In fact, the aforementioned transition is highly advantageous, although there are also few drawbacks present.
For starters, picking up shopping as a hobby can bring forth a deluge of positive psychological impacts to us. The act of browsing through the items in the market can let our hair down from the hustle and bustle of life, focusing on just looking at the things that we feel enjoyable and rewarding. To illustrate, a football maniac will feel thrilled and excited as they visit a sportswear store and try several football boots. Hence, it is akin killing two birds with one stone for us to take a brief respite from the dins and hustle of life through shopping.
However, there are also various reasons that suggest why picking up shopping as a hobby may be detrimental. First and foremost, people who are impulsive consumers may spend excessive money on unnecessary items such as junk food which add little value to their lives. Moreover, some people may jump on the bandwagon, wasting their precious time in pursuing the latest trend. For example, products that are endorsed by well-known celebrities such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Tom Holland. Furthermore, promotions in both brick-and-mortar store and online store may lead to the impulsive behaviour of individuals to buy things beyond their needs and means.
In retrospect, I agree to a certain extent that the transition of shopping into a hobby can impact all and sundry positively, with the prerequisite that shopping is done rationally within our capability.
