There is no denying the fact that advertising has a big impact on society. While it is a commonly held belief that the highest purchases of consumer products tend to reflect the power of advertising and not the real needs of the people who buy them, there is also an argument that opposes this belief. In my opinion, I consider that advertisement plays an important role in our lives.
To begin with, nowadays, social media has invaded the whole world, making it easier for many companies to do advertising. In other words, social media platforms target specific groups of consumers, aiming at their weak points. In addition, companies operate applications that can manipulate people and their emotions by creating a sense of need for products they have not thought about before. For example, many people use the Facebook app, which companies use to advertise their products, and it is easily used to create artificial wants.
Another point to consider is that some organizations make big bargains that seem inexpensive to consumers. It is also possible to say that a huge bargain can be an influencing factor and have a big impact on society. Moreover, companies employ intelligence to benefit themselves in coming up with ideas that can persuade consumers. For instance, there is the appeal of a new approach such as ‘buy one, get one free’; with these bargains, communities may buy things they do not really need.
In conclusion, despite the population having different views, I believe that advertising has the power to lead us to buy unnecessary goods. We should avoid buying products that we do not need.
