It is argued that practical skills are much more important than formal education when it comes to getting a job,which may lead to formal education becoming unnecessary or even being eliminated. I strongly disagree with this view, it is unlikely that formal qualifications will be unnecessary.
On the one hand, there are certain manual jobs that do not require theoretical knowledge, such as mine workers or cleaners, in which people with limited education are employed. This is because practical skills such as lifting heavy objects or doing difficult manual tasks are more important than academic skills such as writing or mathematics, and without formal training they may never have encountered difficulties while doing manual work. If workers in these areas wanted to climb the career ladder, they would have to obtain formal education.
However, graduates with high academic education without practical skills still have a long way to go. Consider medical graduates, none of us expect them to be successful doctors without years of experience. Although they may have deep knowledge in medical science that helps them diagnose various diseases, they need trial and error to acquire practical skills to become experts and acquire versatile skills in both practical and theoretical aspects. Moreover, I believe that academic knowledge not only helps applicants to have a deep understanding of their career path, but also leads to the elimination of errors and improvement of practical skills, because education gives them a broad horizon to solve problems effortlessly.
In conclusion, while I can understand how vital practical skills are in all fields, I strongly disagree with the idea that academic education will be unnecessary in the coming years, because although there are a few jobs that only require practical, hands-on skills, most fields require in-depth knowledge and formal education.
