In many countries, there is new dilemma that have been developed in young generation, they are pressured to choose careers basen on earning potential rather than personal passion. From my perspective this phenomenon has more benefits than drawbacks because in today financial security is an important thing.
In the society that growing towards capitalism, people tends to choose money over they personal preference for their career. This is a reasonable choice because in money-oriented society passion often can not buy basic neccessities for living. Proffesions like doctor, engineer, or lawyer has bigger chance to secure the financial freedom for living because it stable career path. Financial freedom can make our pension time comfortably or sometimes we can pension early to chase other disire. There is lot example of people that choose different path of career when they retire, like Indonesian sixth president, after he’s precidency end he choose to become painter.
However, choosing careers that basen on the earning rather than the passion has a drawbacks. It can make them stressed out because they do not enjoy their activities. For example, if someone is passionate about art but because the economic pressure they choose career like engineer, the job that they do will not become optimum because they already stressed out.
In conclusion choosing money over passion despite the drawbacks that can make us stress out at works, the financial secured future can outweight the drawbacks. Financial stable live also can open other opportunities for us to chasing our buried passion.
