Could the planet be made a better place to reside by shifting back to traditional forms of respecting family members and the local communities? I entirely find it to be true considering the outcomes of this development, which are improvement in patience levels of individuals, strengthening of family bonds and reduction in conflicts.
Respect teaches people to wait calmly. This is because while admiring other’s views, one learns to listen patiently and wait for the turn to speak; moreover, waiting for the approval of elders in the family before performing any action teaches to stay calm despite delays. For example, had my friend not kept his father’s permission in high regard before taking every critical steps of his life, he would not have learnt patience. Consequently, it reduces the number of mistakes one may make in a hurry.
Further, it improves family relations. Its reason is that giving respect demonstrates trust and acceptance of differences, thereby increasing the emotional support or teamwork one receives from his close ones in return. A study on 10,000 Indian families has revealed more support among different members of families where everyone esteemed each other’s value.
Besides connecting the family members, the traditional ways of respect aid in reducing clashes in general. Since mutual respect means being considerate, flexible and open to others’ perspectives along with propelling the two parties to look for common ground, it assists in bringing peace in the society.
To summarize, as older ways of respecting family and community not only encourage tolerance among people and better connections between families but also lower incompatibility, these can make a better world for all.
