Band 6+: Individual greed and selfishness have been the basis of modern society. Some people think that we must return to older more traditional values such as respect for the and the local community in order to create a better world to live in. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Today, society is based on egoism and greed. Some believe that coming back to our old values and respecting older people and indigenous communities will change the world for the better. I strongly agree with this view.

I must admit the positive sides of selfishness and avarice. Firstly, social bonds are decreased by narcissism. Namely, narcissism causes family separation, which is the main factor in the collapse of society. Lastly, people lose connection to others, which makes people suffer from loneliness. Most of today’s youth are deeply depressed due to loneliness, and it turns out that most of those who decide to commit suicide are selfish and greedy.

However, I am of the opinion that these treats have a huge positive impact on society. Some people are contributing their personal will. For example, scientists and businessmen create new businesses and opportunities, which in turn lead to increased economic activity and prosperity and also provide people with the opportunity to be self-employed. Moreover, individualism increases due to egoism and greed. Selfish people begin to work independently, without the help of others. In addition, it shapes people’s decision-making without hesitation. Risk is one of the main weapons of businessmen.

In conclusion, despite some of the negative consequences of selfishness and greed, I agree with this statement because of its positive impacts.

Some individuals believe that in today’s modern world, an excessive desire for material possessions is the primary motivation for living. They think that returning to historical values, such as respecting elders, could improve society. While I agree that embracing traditional values can shift an individual’s perspective, I contend that it will not fundamentally change the […]
