It is often said that intellect is one of the most crucial qualities a leader should possess. I disagree with this statement and believe that other traits such as confidence and ambition are more important than a leader who is just intelligent.
To begin with, a person cannot be expected to have authority over others if they are shy. For example, a president of a country is required to address the nation and communicate with its citizens. It is expected that they act loudly and confidently in front of millions of people. As a result, an audience will not take a shy leader seriously and trust and faith would be lost due to lack of confidence they exhibit. A leader is someone who takes control and is in charge of people, therefore, they cannot be expected to lead without possessing confidence.
Secondly, a successful leader should be ambitious. These individuals are goal orientated and stop at nothing until their goals have been achieved. This attribute is vital for someone in authority because individuals look up to them and have full faith that their needs will be met. For example, citizens will note vote for a lazy president with no dreams or aspirations.
To conclude, I disagree that intelligence is the most important quality of a leader, attributes such as confidence and ambition are far more valuable qualities to have.
