Government Investment in local amenities has a significant impact on the growth of good community spirit in general. There is no doubt that any common activity – from physical ones, such as playing tennis, to creative ones, such as making art – can increase social cohesion. However, personally I think that there are other, more effective ways to boost social unity, such as achieving vital goals for all of humanity, for example solving environmental problems.
Some people believe that if the government invests in local amenities such as leisure centres, this will best contribute to good community spirit. Spending time together and doing things together brings people closer together.Furthermore, it leads to productive teamwork and mutual assistance.
In any matter, while this is true to a certain extent, I believe there are better ways to strengthen community spirit. A collective awareness of the need to influence vital aspects of life, for instance environmental issues, poverty, saving homeless animals, and so on, could be the best motivation for people to act together. This is why investment in animal shelters or in a soup kitchen, where people can volunteer, would be much more effective. Moreover, this strategy could kill two birds with one stone: strengthen a good community spirit and to help those in need.
In conclusion, even while the government’s investment in local amenities could lead to increased community spirit, investment in other vital areas that require participatory action may be far more effective. In this way, understanding the importance and gratitude of a common cause can serve as a social glue.
