Some people believe that hosting some global sports games is a waste of the government’s money, while the opposite is true for others. While I tend towards the viewpoint that it requires a lot of money and it can be pointless sometimes, I still believe that spending money and time on such events is far from being just a waste of money.
On the one hand, there are some reasons that support the points of view of some people. Firstly, the reason for this is that some countries spend a lot of money on sporting games just to make their homeland more famous, even though the infrastructure of the country is far from being perfect. Consequently, people in these types of countries suffer from the government’s inexpedient spending of money. Another key factor is that the publicity of some sports is not even popular in a specific country. For instance, if some country spends money for a sport that is not popular there, it will not be satisfying for foreigners to come and attend an event. As a result, an event will not be famous around the world and it will not give any benefits.
On the other hand, there are also reasons to believe the opposite. Firstly, it is the factor of the hosting land. If the country hosts the right event according to people’s interests and country’s budget the event will become a peculiar sports carnival. For instance, the 2018 Football World Cup. People from around the world and from the hosting land itself will attend the event because it is a pleasure for them to watch their favourite sport in this atmosphere. Secondly, there is a factor of profit. If a country hosts an appropriate event and will give sport lovers a comfortable atmosphere, the hosting country will earn money and popularity because of it. If the event ends successfully, people all around the world will notice it, and the country will gain popularity. Additionally, ticket prices, accommodation for tourists and other related sectors will make a profit and will make this sports tournament beneficial.
In conclusion, while I admit that spending time on sports tournaments can be pointless sometimes, I believe that hosting such games is far from being not profitable and pointless.
