There is a belief that crime significantly affects quality of life, and in some countries it has become one of the most serious problems in communities. Sources of the problem lie in social inequality and the influence of the environment. To address the issue, some changes in the educational system and media content should be implemented.
The primary issue of increasing crime rate in developed countries is social inequality, which includes economic disparity and lack of employment opportunities. The lack of jobs and a considerable gap between the rich and poor force people to break the law. For example, limited access to well-paying jobs leaves many people without a stable income, making it difficult to afford basic needs. As a result, it makes them more likely to engage in criminal behavior to survive. A viable approach to mitigating this problem is improving educational and job opportunities, and encouraging individuals to have better life conditions without breaking the law. For example, promote policies that ensure equal opportunities in hiring and focus on reducing discrimination based on gender, race, or socioeconomic status. Consequently, it can help people get stable jobs, make them feel valued, and reduce their motivation for criminal activity.
Another challenge of criminal actions lies in the influence of the media and environment, given that media represent violence and there is the rising crime level in high-crime areas, it leads to normalizing illegal activities and encouraging criminal behaviour. Moreover, including teenagers’ desire for thrilling experience, they are more likely to be influenced by the media. Accordingly, all ages are impacted by society to break the law. To ameliorate the situation, some changes in media content should be integrated, such as promoting community awareness and organizing engaging activities to replace risky behaviors. Therefore, it might lead to a more conscious attitude of crime.
In conclusion, the crime rates in developed countries, which is caused by social and economic disparity between people, and wrong perception of illegal actions, can be resolved by improving educational and job access, and changes in media representation. This approaches will lead to better quality of life and more safety community.
