It was assumed that related to the advancement of technology, individuals will have more leisure time in the 21st century compared to the previous ages. While I recognize that this phenomenon can bring about some detrimental impacts in a few aspects, I am more convinced that it is more beneficial.
On the one hand, technological advances help people have more free time. Several home appliances can simplify household chores. For example, instead of spending hours washing clothes and cleaning the house, people can do it easily with washing machines and vacuum cleaners. Another merit worth mentioning is technology devices can help people save time by improving information exchange and communication on the internet. Therefore, work such as online meetings and document sharing become faster and more convenient. Moreover, working remotely helps employees save commuting time, which allows them to have more free time for themselves and their families.
On the other hand, despite the aforementioned merits of the innovation of technology, which allow citizens to enjoy more leisure time, certain drawbacks are associated with this phenomenon. One potential demerit is that technology also reduces the leisure time of many inhabitants. For instance, many people nowadays do not feel relieved, they seem to be busier and more stressed. In the workplace, despite the remarkably effective use of technology, workers are under high pressure, worrying that they may be replaced by machines or other competitors.
In conclusion, while the innovation of technology to help citizens have more free time can bring about some desirable outcomes, it also has several drawbacks.
