Advertisement plays an imperative role in the promotion of new products in the markets. It is often argued that ads on fast food should be abolished as it has detrimental effects on the general public. This essay will outline my opinion in this context.
To begin with, advertisers usually target young children and teenagers in the promotion of their products as they are more addicted to social media. Moreover, this platform reinforces the promotion of these products. To cite an example, in this fast-paced world, a good number of parents’ work; therefore, they cannot cook at home so the best option they could think of is frozen food. This is damaging to their health since junk food has more sugar, calories, and fats, as well as few good nutrients and a lack of dietary fibre, resulting in various diseases like obesity, heart disease, and high blood pressure.
Even though ads have positive sides, their negative health effects cannot be glossed over. Furthermore, advertisers always use well-known personalities to popularise their products, which influences young children to crave the foods that are promoted by their role models. Whereas it is parents who have a great role in enforcing a positive dietary habit in their children’s lives. Ergo, I believe the prohibition of this advertisement along with parents’ contributions can somehow reduce the consumption of these junk foods.
To recapitulate, even though canned foods are available in an easy way and the ads act as a medium to popularise these, their drawbacks are harmful. Therefore, as far as I am concerned, advertisement that promotes these unhealthy foods should be prohibited.
