To live in a country where I have to communicate in a language that is not my first language can be really problematic socially and practically. I completely agree with this notion because native speakers look down upon those who can’t speak their language well and inefficient communication can cause a huge problem in the workplace.
As native speakers look down upon the ones who can not communicate well in their language, many people start feeling insecure and eventually stop meeting new people and making new friends. This causes them to feel lonely and takes away the chance to learn about different cultures. Living in a new country is supposed to be fun and full of knowledge but turns out to be a nightmare because of the unacceptance of native people. Some look for people of their nationality and miss the chance to grow in a multicultural society.
Ineffective communication in a foreign language can cause a lot of problem in the workplace. Misinterpretation of one’s speech is one of them. Even if some people can manage to speak a foreign language well, they lack the expression and proper gestures needed to communicate effectively. Thus making a wrong impression. Despite being a potential and responsible candidate, the inability to express oneself properly in a different language takes away many opportunities from one’s hand. A real-life example could be, e:g: top positions of many giant companies are held by native employees.
In conclusion, a wide range of problem can arise due to lack of communication skill in a foreign language wich can cause unacceptance by native people as well as miss opportunities in workplace.
