Many manufacturers begin to automate their working operations, reducing the needs of human resources. I believe that the merits outweigh the drawbacks as it promotes efficiency and accuracy.
The utilization of machineries makes production more efficient for such industries, leading to a rise in productivity. That is to say, while this technology could be activated without boundaries of time limit, so that they can perform non-stop, they do not require an incentive to operate. Thus, by implementing this, not only could businesses save more money in which initially used for employees’ wages, but also increase the outcome quantity. However, although errors might occur within its program, this can be solved with a scheduled maintenance. By 2020, an Indonesian beverage company had been completely installing robotic tools to label their final products 24/7. Consequently, the total number of productions and margin increased by 70%, simultaneously with them not having to provide monthly salary for their workers as what they have done in the former years.
Additionally, the works performed by robots are significantly more accurate, creating goods in excellent quality. In other words, this technology could function detailed operations that often are difficult for human to do so. Thus, if industries are more to harness the use of this automation, the more superior the outcomes. Despite this, this trend could lead to massive job loss worldwide by taking over the job desks of human, although job reallocation becomes the viable solution. For example, in a watch manufacturing company, Rolex, the officials replaced the human involvement when producing their latest wristwatch series due to the works requiring them to deal with motors and gears of the watches having a scale of around 5 millimetres. Therefore, they used a specific hand-like robot in the process.
In conclusion, the major reasons of why companies have a tendency to introduce mechanization within their work setting are to increase efficiency and accuracy. If possible, when transitioning to automated ones, the establishments should not neglect their former employees.
