Many business owners find their staff lacking sufficient interpersonal skills. In this essay, I will discuss the possible reasons for this problem and offer potential solutions.
First, the staff could lack interpersonal skills because of their previous workplace or lifestyle. In many companies, people are separated into small departments, where each member is assigned a task that is not related to their colleagues. This creates an environment that barely allows for proper communication, which stops teamwork skills from being developed properly for each worker.
When it comes to people who are fresh out of high school or college, they seem to face the same problem of lacking fundamental interpersonal skills, but for a different reason. Because of the immense focus on achieving good grades and perfect scores on their exams, there is simply no time left for them to socialize and develop proper social skills.
Many solutions can be implemented by companies, schools, and universities to address the problem. For instance, schools and universities could implement more teamwork-oriented projects for their students or offer classes or workshops that will prepare students for their future employment. Also, it would benefit companies to change their work structure to allow for more colleague interaction instead of the employees working individually.
In conclusion, the lack of basic interpersonal skills in new employees stems from the majority of businesses’ work structures and the educational system being more grade-oriented than teamwork-oriented. Fixing their structures to allow for more human interaction would lead to a decline in people lacking social and teamwork skills, in my opinion.
