With the growth of the internet and digital services, many countries are now allowing citizens to vote online in national elections.Many voters believe that this is a better approach than the traditional one, while others argue that the disadvantages outweighs the advantages.In this essay we will discuss both views before reaching a conclusion.
Allowing citizens to vote online, particularly in national elections, have several advantages.Firstly, many countries take in consideration the significant cost to organize elections.National elections concerns all the people of the country which makes the election process very expensive compared to the online voting.Secondly, the digital solutions today foster a sense of transparency and confidentiality.Making all the elections process online prevent corruption incidents that may apprear if this process is fully controlled by humans.Thirdly, the internet is widespread today, which makes it easier for citizens to vote, for example, many people live far away from the voting centers which makes it financialy affordable to participate online.
However, organizing the full election on the digital world may be very dangerous.Because of millions of voters have to uplaod their personal information to the internet, they may experience the risk of identity theft.Many hackers use this private data to sell it in black marckets which puts the country in critical situtation.Also, altough the technology advanced, it is still hard to provide the suffisant digital infrastructure for hosting a national elections, for example, less developed countries still making their first steps into digitalization, allowing their citizens to vote online is impossible.Additionally, many people perfer the traditional approachs, it is hard to convince them to use modern methods especially for critical processes such as national elections.
Altough, the online election appears to be more dangerous and ambigious, i beleive that its advantages outweighs the disadvantages.Firstly, with the increasing of internet usage, online voting will be easier and cheaper for future generations, which encourage them to participate in the national elections.Additionally, the online methods are more confidential and far more safer than traditinal ones, which is the most important criteria events that leads to critical decisions such as presedential elections.
In conclusion, while in person elections are more fimiliar to citizens and can be technicaly hard for some countries, however, online elections are more suitable for future generations and provide more transparency and safety, especially with the growth of cybersecurity technology.
