It is sometimes argued that languages like English, Mandarin and Spanish are becoming globally spoken, and there is a concern that languages spoken by fewer people may vanish. Several countries have begun to give protection to this kind of language. I completely agree that it is a good idea and will explain it with reasons and particular examples.
Despite the fact that there is a huge trend that many people tend to learn widely spoken languages for several reasons. These languages can open many opportunities that minor languages are not able to do. However, they also represent historical and ethnical heritage of people. People and governments should raise awareness about how languages play a crucial part in a country’s background. In order to implement this, they might use social media platforms and their huge impact on people. For instance, recently, in my country many influencers made educational videos about how our mother tongue (which is also a minority language) is really important in our culture, so we have to preserve it. Therefore, it encouraged many people to use and take care of our tongue.
Another feasible reason is that governments should create some rules that people should follow. For example, if they do not use their official language in mass media, these people should be punished by authorities. It might force them to use the language more, and the exposure to the language will be increased.
In conclusion, while some languages are becoming globalized, there is also a growing fear among many people that minority languages become very extinct. In my opinion, governments and people should protect these languages by raising awareness and creating rules.
