Environmental issues have always been a matter of global concern. It is contended that the only solution to addressing environmental issues is to increase the petrol cost. The aforementioned opinion is partly justified due to several reasons.
It is undeniable that imposing heavy fuel taxes can reduce the amount of petrol consumed. To clarify, excessive spending on petrol frequently places a heavy financial burden on families, hench, discouraging people from making use of it as comfortably as they used to. Moreover, rising gasoline prices can raise people’s awareness. This is because higher fuel costs make people more likely to appreciate its value. Therefore, people will only use petrol-powered vehicles when they truly need them, substantially reducing fuel consumption and its negative impact on the environment.
Proponents of this view believe that increasing the price of petrol can effectively encourage people to turn to more eco-friendly options such as electric vehicles, but they fail to acknowledge that the operating process of electrical means of transportation can exert a detrimental influence on the environment. For instance, in many countries which lack power facilities, it is compulsory to construct modern infrastructures in order to provide enough energy for the whole country. As a result, the construction process accidentally releases harmful compounds, leading to air pollution. Instead, the government should give priority to more practical solutions such as encouraging remote working. By working from a home-based environment, people can reduce the usage frequency for commuting. Consequently, this working model allows companies to maintain their operation while curbing vehicular exhaust fumes and emissions, directly alleviating their influence on the environment.
To conclude, although an increase in petrol price can mitigate the frequency of use, changing to a more practical and sustainable option is of paramount importance. When managed properly, people can make use of gasoline-powered vehicles effectively in necessary situations without causing severe damage to the environment.
