With the development of technology, the number of individuals using artificial intelligence (AI) has risen over the years. While some people believe that this phenomenon will negatively affect the cognitive autonomy, others think it can help with resolving problems more effectively. In this essay, I will acknowledge the reason behind these views before arguing that AI can be beneficial.
It is undeniable that the increasing use of artificial intelligence has influenced individuals’ thinking. To begin with, the overuse of artificial intelligence will make individuals rely heavily on it. They can lose their natural reflexes of dealing with daily conversation or fundamental problems as they mostly use artificial intelligence to overcome these normal obstacles without really facing these situations. For example, introverted people, if they constantly ask AI such as ChatGPT how to have a small talk with strangers without really spending time outside, they will never improve their communication skill. Furthermore, using artificial intelligence for a long time can restrict the ability to distinguish real or fake information. The great number of individuals automatically trust information that AI provides without even checking its resources. As a result, they will be more credulous so that criminals can take advantage of them.
However, the rise in using artificial intelligence can be beneficial to some extent. Firstly, it helps solve problems more effectively and even infer a lesson through these problems. For instance, students now can ask AI to deal with their math questions and then grab and analyze all the possible solutions for them to learn. Moreover, it provides various perspectives about the problems so individuals can be more objective, allowing them to make wise decisions. Additionally, artificial intelligence can process and evaluate huge amounts of information just in a few minutes which helps save quality time. Taking medicine as an illustration, doctors now can use AI to analyze medical images or to recognize common symptoms.
In conclusion, although the increasing use of artificial intelligence can restrict people’s ability to think independently and distinguish valuable information, it still helps people efficiently address problems and make wise decisions. AI can support independent thinking rather than replace it, provided that people do not become overly dependent on it.
