Young men are called to serve as soldiers in the majority of the world. Some support this application and argue to generalize this for every nation and each gender, as well. I disagree with this statement due to the anatomical differences of people and the importance of free will.
Given every human has different body shapes and types, people’s physical abilities vary in a wide range. In general, males are more likely to be stronger than females when it comes to physical strength, which is a common thought among societies. Since military services are based on mostly being powerful, not only there should be gender discrimination, but also men should be provided the opportunity to choose whether to attend or not. For example, some men are skinnier than the rest, which makes them vulnerable and even useless in tough conditions on battlefields.
Another concern to be highlighted is being respectful of people’s free will and choices. The military can be considered a workplace where one usually performs under hard circumstances. Whereupon, citizens may not be willing to participate in military forces, unless they desire this. Men who are capable of satisfying the requirements of being a soldier will be more successful than the ones who have talents in other areas. For example, a student with lots of accomplishments in science subject should not be compelled to sacrifice his education life in favor of joining the military. These types of students should be encouraged to pursue their studies instead of performing compulsory military service.
In conclusion, men are expected to serve in the military for many nations, and some hope for the number of countries where this procedure takes place to increase. I strongly disagree with this idea since people diverge from each other in terms of capabilities and everyone needs to have the right to choose freely what to do with their lives.
