Many people believe that it is not necessary to uphold traditional behaviourism and practices in the modern era. Although modern lifestyles have changed and everybody has equal rights, I believe that caring for the elderly and providing protection to woman are still important customs to maintain.
On the one hand, woman is treated differently against woman a few decades ago. In the past woman were seen as individuals who did not have any human rights and was treated unfairly regarding occupations and career choices, however, in the modern era woman shares equal rights and are treated in the same manner as men. Furthermore, elderly people do not receive the necessary respect from younger adults. Older people are struggling to keep up with the technological changes and battling to adapt with the fast pace in which the modern lifestyle is moving. For example, the older population are struggling to book train tickets online because their abilities to use new technological methods is under par. This is why I believe that traditional behaviour is important for modern society.
In contrast, chivalry has a purpose in protecting and caring for the weak, as well as showing good manners to community members. Some people need support from others to protect them from people that want to take advantage of their weaker nature or assist in completing tasks, as a result of physical challenges or individuals with lower testosterone, such as woman struggling to lift heavy objects and need help from a stronger individual who are able to help should assist. Moreover, senior individuals need to be taken care of during their post-retirement phase. Younger members of the family should share the responsibility of taking care of the elderly, who have health issues or physical fatigue problems by providing financial support, such as paying for a caretaker or showing emotional support. For instance, children of elderly parents need to take care of their parents by visiting them often or relocate them into their house as a permanent resident to observe their physical or mental health.
In conclusion, modern society ensured equal rights to everyone, and technological developments have increased significantly. This causes the same treatment for all individuals regardless of their gender or physical abilities and elderly people cannot operate modern technological devices. These are the reasons why customs and traditions are no longer relevant. I firmly believe that we should continue with traditional customs and traditions despite the previous reasons, to ensure that we show respect and kindness to senior citizens and taking action where people need help.
