Different countries in the world were believed to have different products. This is not the case anymore due to the advancement of technology fostering globalization. Nowadays, people are able to get products from other countries without even stepping out of their own countries. Could this be a positive development or negative towards the countries and people?
Some people consider the similarities, or to the extent of being the exact same, as a beneficial development. It used to be quite a hassle to get a certain product from a certain oversea store due to the need to visit the said country to purchase. The time consumed and also the expenses needed are definitely two of the main factors why people consider this development positive. Without needing to travel to another country, people are able to save travel expenses and can also purchase the product anywhere. Another benefit from this is towards the country. When the citizens travel to another country to purchase the products, it is the said country that would get the income from tax. However, since the citizens can get the products in their own countries, the tax paid would be absorbed by their own countries instead.
On the other hand, there are also some that would argue otherwise. It is true that the ease of access and the convenience brought by said development is very appealing. However, countries would soon lose their uniqueness and identity due to the similarities. The lack of purpose for citizens from other countries to visit would certainly impact the tourism sector of the said country. International brands would be able to compete even easier due to being able to market their products everywhere. This, in fact, would bring burdens to the local retailers and producers. Smaller business owners would not be able to compete equally on the same level since they lack funds to begin with. Livelihood of theirs might be jeopardized due to such development.
In short, it is certainly interesting to see such development happening and we cannot really stop globalization from growing. Even so, governments should not neglect the local businesses and focus only on the overall income. If the countries are able to control the negative sides of this development properly, then there would be no huge issue for such thing to happen.
