Regarding the issue that many employees have recently been taking advantage of modern gadgets to work remotely, numerous people believe that the benefit will lay only on the workers’ side. From my perspective, I firmly oppose this school of thought.
Of course, one may argue that online working may only aid employees in having a comfortable workplace, mostly their house, which can potentially affect their performance. This is driven by a theory that workers may not concentrate on their jobs due to the lack of certain surveillance. In fact, many entrepreneurs have some reservations about the benefits of remote working. Specifically, Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, Twitter, and so on, refuses to let his employees work remotely as he believes that it would potentially lessen their working concentration, which is bound up with their job performance. Notwithstanding, in some fields that require creativity and comfort, online working may be beneficial in increasing employees’ ability to focus, eventually resulting in higher performance. Take, for example, comic writers, who tend to stay at their own houses for the sake of nurturing their ideas to come up with various intriguing comic books. This can be observed in the case of Oda Eiichiro who has been devoting tremendous time in his room to complete One Piece, one of the most prevalent comic series in the world.
However, online working may help firms to employ many exceptional workers globally. To illustrate, some businesses such as Meta have been launching a strategy to hire numerous employees for various remote positions like art producer and product manager. This approach has the potential to expand the company’s ability to attract high-quality global employees who may prefer not to relocate. Furthermore, allowing employees to work remotely can open up office space for other departments, ultimately leading to substantial cost savings for companies.
In conclusion, despite initial concerns about employee performance, online work has proven to be beneficial, particularly in roles that require creativity and comfort. In addition, internet-based jobs can assist entrepreneurs in approaching quality global sources of workers. Considering these factors, I believe that online work not only provides a significant advantage for employees but also offers advantages for employers.
