In contemporary society, a controversial debate has emerged among many individuals regarding whether to use technological advancements in doing jobs or to do tasks by hand. This essay will evaluate both perspectives before articulating my viewpoint, which favors the idea that using automatic devices is beneficial for people.
On the one hand, those supporting the idea that jobs are better done by machines point to the fact that it can speed up work efficiency. They assert that automation can save a lot of time for people, since computers and machines are faster and more efficient; therefore, they can do heavy tasks in industries, which are overwhelming for the human workforce to do. They also state that machinery has decreased false steps in the working process considerably. For example, in some factories, machines are responsible for correcting human mistakes while producing goods.
Conversely, advocates for the idea that jobs should be carried out by skilled workers believe that technology can cause individuals to become unemployed. They say that jobless people will face numerous difficulties in the future, leading to not only financial problems but also mental disorders, such as isolation and depression. Moreover, they argue that, because of a lack of physical activity, a person might suffer from obesity and obesity-related diseases, such as heart disease.
Overall, while both perspectives present their own merits, I am inclined to support the viewpoint that emphasizes the importance of machines’ roles in this regard, because machines can make our tasks easier and more convenient than hands-on jobs, which means that people do not have to lift heavy items or do harmful tasks. Although an increase in the number of job opportunities for employees should be taken into consideration, the benefits of automation are worth considering in this regard.
