There is a growing debate over whether films and computer games that involve violent content do harm to society and should be banned. I believe that an outright ban is unnecessary and that stricter regulation would be a better solution.
On the one hand, violence in films and video games can pose a significant threat to human psychology, especially children. This is because children often lack the necessary experience to evaluate media content critically. As a result, they may be vulnerable to being influenced by these violent content, especially those designed with colorful images, impressive characters or thrilling stories. Teenagers may therefore imitate such behaviour without fully understanding its serious consequences, especially because violent content is widely available and easily accessible on various platforms. Apart from children, adults and older people can also be negatively affected by such content because they can convey false information to make the story more thrilling and exciting. For example, films about war can be exaggerated by adding more fighting and violent scenes to attract more viewers, consequently leading to the misconception about history.
On the other hand, violent films and games are not necessarily harmful to everyone. It is undeniable that most violent films and games are subject to age restrictions, which can prevent children from accessing inappropriate content, instead, parents should properly supervise their children and the governments should introduce stricter regulations on violent films and video games so they can control the content that children are exposed to. Additionally, violent films and games can serve as a form of recreational entertainment alongside other genres, such as romance, comedy and sitcoms. This allows individuals to enjoy a wider range of entertainment and relax after their daily responsibilities. For example, many people prefer watching action films with excessive battles because they enjoy the excitement and suspense created by such scenes.
In conclusion, although violent films and computer games may have negative effects, particularly on children who are exposed to them excessively, I do not believe that they should be completely banned. Instead, governments and parents should impose appropriate age restrictions and monitor children’s access to such content while allowing adults to enjoy it responsibly.
