It is said that many parents oppose children playing video games. They believe that these online games take a toll on their children’s mental and physical health. I, personally, agree with this notion. This essay will shed light on this matter with relevant examples.
Firstly, playing video games can be devastating for one’s mental health. Teenagers are vulnerable to games addiction and violence due to computer games. Online games are deemed highly addictive, which is one of their most obvious disadvantages. Instead of taking up e-sport to relieve stress, many young adults choose to play games excessively. At the simplest level, they cannot live without video games. Any attempts made to disturb or prevent them from playing would result in frustration and aggression. Given that they are in an important personality-shaping phase of their life, video games bear much relevance to emotional immaturity and bad manners among young individuals. On top of that, thrilling games are stereotyped as being violent. Only by shooting and murdering other competitors can users become the last survivor, meaning to win. However, game developers have met with no success to limit the age groups permitted to play. Therefore, teenagers under the age of 18 with incomplete cognitive development are susceptible to misperception about the surrounding world. As an aftermath, many juvenile offenders declared video games as the catalyst behind their criminal mentality.
Secondly, computer games might have negative ramifications on the physical health of the young generation. They are put at risk of short-sightedness and obesity due to prolonged hours attached to the screens. In fact, they prioritize playing games over engaging in outdoor activities. Lack of frequent exercise slows down metabolism and results in a weakened immune system. This can lead to higher susceptibility to illnesses and an overall decline in physical well-being. One of the drawbacks of excessive gaming is a decrease in the function of our brains. People might find clearly more difficulties in solving problems and responding to emergencies. Consequently, the long-term effects of excessive gaming can significantly impact the health of young individuals.
All things considered, it goes without saying that online games harbor potential risks if not adequately moderated. Game players, therefore, are advised to integrate their hobbies into a healthy lifestyle that includes exercising, socializing, nutrition and sleep.
