Many people are increasingly reluctant to leave their home at night because they are concerned about becoming victims of crime. While some people argue that several measures should be taken to mitigate crime rates, others believe that little can be done. Although crime cannot be eradicated, I believe that stronger legal regulations can help reduce the crime rate.
On the one hand, some people contend that governments should implement effective policies in order to mitigate the crime rate. They can increase the presence of police officers in high-crime areas and install CCTV cameras in public places. Streetlights can also discourage criminals from committing crimes. Moreover, stricter penalties may deter individuals from engaging in illegal events. For example, if they are aware of serious punishment when they commit crimes, they are afraid of being caught or stiff penalties. Therefore, a combination of effective policing, CCTV cameras, and appropriate penalties can help create safer communities.
On the other hand, others argue that crimes can never be eradicated because they are influenced by a wide range of social and economic factors. Poverty, unemployment, inadequate education, and drug addiction can all be attributed to criminal behavior, and these cannot be solve instantly. This is mainly because the government cannot understand their feelings or punishment cannot be solved their problem. Furthermore, even some countries with strong policies and CCTV cameras continue to experience crimes. Since only finances or wealth are not the main reasons to avoid crimes. It is therefore unrealistic to expect the government to disappear crimes completely. Instead, people should also take reasonable precautions, such as avoiding isolated places at night or protecting their houses with lockers or alarm systems.
In my opinion, although authorities or people cannot remove crimes completely, several measures should be taken to prevent crimes. But that does not mean they should simply accept crime as an avoidable part of society. The authorities should invest in effective policies while addressing underlying causes of crime, particularly unemployment or poverty. People should also protect themselves.
In conclusion, while some believe that little can be done because crime is not straightforward to control and cannot be eliminated, I believe that governments should implement effective policies, such as placing police officers in public cities, install CCTV cameras, and provide streetlight in streets.
