Many people believe it is a good thing to have competition in daily life, at school and at work. While others argue that cooperation would benefit more. I personally agree with the latter idea. This essay will discuss both perspectives and give reasons to support my thought.
It cannot be denied that humans have grown up with competition our whole lives, which made it essential for survival. Firstly, in terms of business, where a mixture of daily life and work cross paths, its market system would need to have competition to fuel its function. For example, one specific type of product could have been sold by multiple brands, thus in order to make profits each brand has to compete with others to be customers’ first choice. As a result, they have to improve their goods in terms of quality, price, packaging, etc. Furthermore, this would give customers more advantages as there are more diverse choices in the market along with different levels of quality and price. In a school setting, it is normal to improve students’ performance through academic competitions. Schools usually offer extra activities apart from in-class studies, hence competitions regarding Mathematic, Science, English, or even Arts are quite well-known amongst schoolers. For instance, Thai government schools always host annual academic competitions that would have children from different academies compete with each other for medals or money as a prize. These activities are claimed as one of academic tools that potentially improve practical skills.
On the other hand, competitions could indirectly harm people in one way or another. Many people, myself included, consider competition in daily routine, in academic field, and in professional setting as meaningless where we could cooperate with each other. It is a fact that some competitions are needed in the business industry, however, in many cases the result is not satisfying the customers and the system at all. To elaborate, a huge conglomerate can monopolize the entire market of one specific product which is resulted from the competitions. In a school setting, young adults should gain knowledge and build good relationships. Furthermore, in the work field, people should be doing their jobs and keeping with their responsibilities with more cooperative atmosphere each individuals’ creativities would inspire colleagues. Lastly, competitions create a sense of intention and frustration which cause stressfulness and eventually impact a person’s health in the long term.
In conclusion, some people state that competition is necessary at work, at school, and in normal routine, however others and myself oppose to this statement because cooperative relations are more crucial than competitions that could be the root cause of an unhealthiness in a later life.
