Examinations are one of the most common method of measure the learning in education system over the world. But some peoples believe that “pen and paper” examinations are not the best way to achieve educational level . In my opinion, the role of test in education is important.
There are several clearly advantages to exams. Firstly, they establishes justice by making same condition for all candidates. This means that every student take the exam during the same time limit, in the same place and with same questions. For example , in a univercity entrance exam candidates answer the same question in the same duration. Secondly ” pen and paper” examinations improve the students skills that express clearly and logically the ideas of them. Especially, essays or written assignments develop the written speech. Thirdly, this type of exams often check the remembering, comprehension and analysis skills. While this give a chance to determining whether a student has real knowledge or not. To illustrate, task to write causes and effects from history reflect the student’s level of understanding.
However, traditional exams also have some limitations that should not be ignored . It is mainly because, some students are very knowledgeable but due to strong excitement they can not pass the tests. Moreover, for “pen and paper’ exams every year thousands of trees are cut down and this cause to environmental problems such as air pollution or loss of biodiversity.
In conclusion, although “pen and paper ” examinations ave some drawbacks, they remains a reliable tool in assessment the student’s knowledge.
