In recent years, there has been an ongoing debate over whether modern games and traditional ones are more beneficial for children’s overall development. Whereas, some arguments assume digital games lead to the lack of childhood abilities, and prevent children from their natural improvement. Personally, I mostly agree with this view, although some modern games still contribute positively.
On the one hand, traditional games such as peek-a-boo, hide and seek, mouse and cat,.. often require physical exercise like running, jumping, cycling,.. These games not only naturally encourage children to go outside more, but also boost the activation and curiosity about the world inside each individual.
Additionally, old games are more likely to play in groups instead of alone like modern ones, so children can promote their social active, emotional development and cooperative network which is considerably essential for the future. Otherwise, parents can ensure the overall development in mental and physical health because of the promotion in physical movement and social interaction of children.
On the other hand, electric games affect children in different fields. Firstly, modern games often utilize electric devices, which considerably harms children’s eyes and also declines children’s passion in activity. Also, children do not have enough ability to measure the consequently, and continue funneling time into mindless games instead of educational materials. Secondly, pupils can not have enough human interaction because they lose perception of time into games. Simultaneously, children can be affected by bad influencers on social media, which lead to self isolation and unrealistic ideologies. Otherwise, some modern games for education and development such as puzzles, mazes still have a good effect on children’s critical thinking.
In conclusion, traditional games’ advantages outweigh modern games’ advantages, but if digital games are used with the right purposes and in moderation, it can be helpful for children’s improvement in the future.
